I loved the way EVERYTHING YOU WANT ME TO BE by Mindy Mejia describes a small farming town in Minnesota and the beloved city of Minneapolis with intimate, nostalgic detail (at one point I had to check and see if I had grown up with or around the author, especially because I even went to school with a girl named Hattie *Hoff*)…and it def didn’t hurt that it has a central character that reminded me of a cross between Stabler from “Law & Order: SVU” and Jim Hopper in “Stranger Things”. Also, just to make the book even more about me, Hattie’s burning desire for more than her town could give her was all of me in high school (and, admittedly, early adulthood) and I immediately loathed Peter for the simple fact that I already knew him.

About Amber L.

Hi! I'm Amber. I've been telling stories with books and blogs since 2004. I also spent 10 years working as a behavior therapist, which I now put to proper use by publishing thought pieces and dissertations on '80s pop music and the defining TV shows of our current times ('The Bachelor', 'Vanderpump Rules', etc). I can also be credited with single-handedly ruining the city of Portland, OR just by moving here.
